# AWS Amplify Project Ideas for the Hashnode Hackathon

You want to participate in the Hashnode AWS Amplify Hackathon but you aren't sure what to build? I have a few ideas for you. Before we jump into project ideas let's talk about the plug-in-play functionality of the AWS Amplify framework to help you generate your own ideas.

# What can AWS Amplify do?

In [Marcia Villalba](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx4N5t3IbdI&list=PLGyRwGktEFqfquTNg6u82-m0u45qZUQpL) Getting Started to Amplify we have multiple categories (programming libraries) to quickly extend the functionality of our mobile and web applications. Let us go through all these categories and see what else we can add.

## DataStore Ideas
On-device persistent storage that automatically synchronizes data between your apps and the cloud

## Predictions Ideas

Predictions allow you to add Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) cloud services to your web-application. Let's look at what kind of AI and ML we can do and think of an idea:

**Translating text from one language to another (AWS Translate)**

Language Learning App (Nouns) — Show a word eg. french and ask the user to input the English translation. Inform users if they are correct.

**Converting text to speech (Amazon Polly)**

Audio Battleship — Two users play a game of battleship via messaging, all messages are read aloud and never seen by the other player. The app can detect commands within the written text and will update the gameboard to show the state of the game

**Text recognition from image (AWS Textract)**

Open House Tracker — Create a printable document that contains a table of the person attending an open house. Add some additional fields. Be able to take a photo and turn the document into a csv that is emailed to the realtor.

**Entities recognition (Amazon Rekognition)**

What's In My Fridge App? — Take a photo and produce a list of foodstuff found in my fridge.

**Label real-world objects (Amazon SageMaker Ground Truth)**

I love your dog, what breed is it? — Create an app that lets people submit and label what kind of dog they have, then you can use the app to take a photo of a dog to help label what breed of dog. (bonus points for hybrid)

**Interpretation of text (Amazon Comprehend)**

Technical Difficulty Article Detector — Take in a Hashnode article, and determine the technical difficulty of said article.

**Uploading images for automatic training (Amazon SageMaker)**

Banana Ripe App — an app that can tell if a banana is ripe or not, and give a score on how ideal the banana is to be used in banana bread.

**Transcribing audio to text (AWS Transcribe)**

Karaoke Lyrics Generator — Take in a music clip, output a karaoke-style video so you can sing along.

## Analytics Ideas
Track user sessions, custom user attributes, and in-app metrics

## API Ideas
HTTP requests using REST and GraphQL with support for real-time data

## Auth Ideas

AuthN + AuthZ library with prebuilt UII components for your app

## Interactions Ideas

Interactions allow you to easily interact with a chabot (Amazon Lex) so you can allow your users to use natural language to issues commands within your web-app.

Everything is Okay — A friend bot you can talk to that will share and say to you positive things to improve your overall mental health

How do I on Hashnode? — Ask questions about how to use Hashnode, and have the chatbot leverage documentation at support.hashnode.com to provide a user with an anwser.

Escape Room Chat App — Create a game that plays out like an escape room, the bot can describe the room, and interact with objects and report to you your progress

What's my line? — Recreate the old US game show called "What's my line?" where you are can ask a series of questions, and try to guess what famous person you are talking to.

Banana AR — when the phone camera is pointing at an empty counter, show a fresh bunch of bananas.

Hashnode VR — create a VR web-app that allows you to view Hashnode community feed in a 180° view on a curved screen

# Hashnode Widgets Ideas

In Hashnode it's possible to embed javascript (Hashnode Widgets) within your developer blog. You could create a service that generates out a javascript embed to help other developers enrich their blog's interactivity.

Here are some ideas:

- A Poll Widget (similar to Twitter Polls)
- A Community Whiteboard Widget (let anyone come by and draw something in your article)
- Podcast Preview Widget (Audio clip, audio spectrum, audio to subtitles)
- Scavenger Hunt (A widget that can be embedded into multiple blog posts, that gives you a clue in the article where to find the next clue in another blog post until you find a virtual prize at the end)
- Friendmaker Widget (Put your name and email in the box and be introduced to someone else who has read the article and make a friend)

# Hashnode Content Discovery Ideas

Think of an application that can display Hashnode articles in a creative way.

Here are some ideas:

- A [Flipboard](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/flipboard-latest-stories/id358801284) for Hashnode
- A [Tweetdeck](https://blog.sherbakov.dev/hashnode-deck-discover-new-and-trending-content-on-hashnode-with-ease) for Hashnode
- Article Pusher to Discord backed by Amplify

# Other Amplify Ideas

- Build a [Meme generator](https://imgflip.com/memegenerator)
- Build a [Clubhouse app](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG1wfauSlzY)
- Build a job board for Tailwind CSS designers
